you dont have a problem connecting to people with vista because vista has nothing to do with it, its to do with the person your connecting to and your internet speed. all i can recommend is close anything to do with the internet in you case hidden miles make sure no-one is downloading 
on your network otherwise that will lower your chances of join online games
