Fireball throw bug?

Hi people,

I just found this gem of a game again, and was all giddy through land 1! :D
On land 2 however, my excitement dropped a little when I tried the fireball challenge.

No matter how I throw the fireballs, they just fly off to the side. I remember this games mechanics well, and have no trouble throwing other objects straight and true.
After the botched challenge, I have tried different angles, zooming out and making sure the "run up" is clean. Same result.

Is there a problem with my mouse? The sensitivity is a bit high, but I have no trouble with other objects as stated above?
Anyone experience this?

Regards
Tank

This was a completely straight throw, and as you can see it veers off like 90 degrees?!
It is completely random and turns either hard left or hard right. Like what?!

Hi!

I've had the same issue.

Is your monitor running at > 60 Hz?

I'm running on a 144 Hz monitor, and have found that forcing my monitor refresh rate to 60 Hz in the "Resolution" settings of the Nvidia Control Panel fixes the issue for me.

suffering from the same. Created an account here because couldn't find this issue over internet. My hypothesis is that safedisk is playing dirty here. I assume you are all at least on Win 10, safedisk doesn't like win10 so we are all using the "community patch" to "disable" it to be able to play. I think safedisk sees tampering and uses game-breaking discouragement as a last resort to deter the player from enjoying the game. It's would not be the first time that anti-piracy software screws gameplay on purpose.

@GeneticDrift:
Your solution doesn't work on my end sadly. Forcing the game to run at capped 60hz even with vsync on nvidia control panel didn't seem to do anything. I'm suspecting that the "community patch" is injecting its own dlls into the game making it ignore others inlcuding Nvidia's control panel adjustments.

Safedisk also prevents the use of Dxwnd to fix the game. I cannot even use rivatuner statistics to show the FPS counter (fails to inject into the game). I also have the problem that my GPU (3080) gets hot with this old game; ridiculous due to the low efforts it should be doing to run it; the problem is that it seems to run at around 1500 fps (according to the in-game "tech statistics" (max framerate).

So far the game is unplayable on modern systems due to this broken gameplay. I'm really surprised nobody else complained about the fireballs bug; it's impossible to shoot straight.

I'm back here. Doing some tests. Here is what I've found:

  1. Using a cracked "no-cd" exe from gamecopyworld made the game run in DirectDraw so at least the FPS counter (rivatuner server) works and also Nvidia control panel works. The game is now effectively capped at 60 fps.
  2. Running in DDraw mode makes the game ignore the 1.42 (community) patch visual settings, meaning I've lost the resolution configurations and windowed mode is not working.
  3. DDraw mode makes the game look horrible.
  4. Fireballs work like a charm now.

I have to keep testing and see if I can make this playable.
For information, the "magickrepacks" version of the game doesn't work, it has the "fireballs bug".

EDIT1:

Found out that it is the community patch causing havok. When I used "BaW_Patch_2.exe" or "BWFanPatchInstaller.exe" all the issues above were fixed, BUT the fireball bug returned. Also, the game does not recognize any injected DLLs anymore so no more fps counter or limiting. The patch breaks the game more but fixes some QoL. Will keep testing.
