Hello guys,

after a long time I wanted to play BW1 again.
I have the original CD in german, but installing and using patches doesn't work.
So I've followed the instructions on this video "
".
I've installed the English version and used all patches he mentioned.
The game is working.
My problems starts after quitting the game.
Every time i start the game (I use VirtualCloneDrive to open the .iso and start the game) it gives me the option
to start a new game,
skip the tutorial,
going straight to choosing a creature and
to skip the creature tutorial.
It doesn't matter which one i choose, i don't have and saving files and i start from the beginning.
It's frustrating, cause i can't play all 5 worlds in one day.

Does anyone have the same problem?

I'm sorry for my bad english :D

You need to run the game as an administrator, otherwise, it doesn't seem to be able to create save files.
Unfortunately, I don't know why this issue occurs; it seems to be a new problem.

Im having the same problem and running as administrator did not work. The game looks like it is saving since i can find save files.

I was having the same issue and after abit of reading and trial and error i found a solution that seems to be working so far over the last few days.

1) Don't save to your C drive. I made a folder on my desktop and then installed it to that folder using Administrator.
2) Then install the 3 patches (1.1, 1.2, 1.42 fan patch) using administrator. The patches should locate the install location on their own.
3) Play the game by launching the game via the "runblack" exe file as administator from the folder where the game is installed. When the game launches for the first time I was given a pop-up from windows defender to all the game to have access through the firewall(accept this)
4Everything should work from this point so long as you run as administrator

My game does autosave, but it does not reload the autosave, when I restart the game, I can however, enter the temple, and manually load the autosave from the "TOP-LINE" of Images, in the Game Save Room.

When I installed B&W, it automatically went to = C:\Program Files (x86)\Lionhead Studios Ltd\Black & White\
Everything seems to be running perfectly. It has crashed a few times, but I am always able to load either my last save, or the autosave - I try to remember to "manually" save at critical points, just in case (y)

Soon as I installed the game NOT in the C drive. All my problems were fixed

Soon as I've finished this final level, I think I'm gonna try your, NOT in the C drive, desktop method
 I guess I didn't see it as much of a problem, just a small, possible setback... Now I know it's possible, I think I'll try your method... Many thanks (y)
