You have to use Quicksave and Quickload to save and load your game properly. The autosave and manual save you can forget, they don't work at all.

Hmm that error is weird. The one I usually get is "Couldn't find Black&White..." something along those lines, but starting the setup a second time usually makes it work.

I think you can teach him to throw villagers by doing it yourself in front of him and then praising him if he does it. Slap if he eats or kills them and praise if he throws them.
