Run the setup.exe in the Black & White folder. If under "Graphics Detail Level" it's something other than "Custom Detail," hit the "Custom" button and set the graphics that way. Really, the stuff on Cowgod's guide to getting B&W running on Windows 7 should apply to Windows Vista as well.
Well, looking around the files... The villager banter addon does appear to make some changes to the infoscript files, so it might be that that's the issue. Unfortunately, I don't think I can actually uninstall that... I'll try installing B&W again without adding the villager banter addon...
Okay... I tried installing B&W on a different machine running Windows XP, patched it to 1.10 and then 1.20, and then added the football and villager banter bits. I also didn't change any of the controls from the defaults, suspecting that maybe one of the keys was a hardcoded shortcut to change...
Just a note... Khazar appears to be the only one who starts with a workshop on Minas's map, and it may in fact be the only one in the game apart from one that you might build with the scaffolds. It became really apparent to me when I tried to edit the map .txt so that I could switch places...
Yeah... No matter what help settings I've used, the only way to get what my creature is thinking to display seems to be hovering my hand over him, but I remember and have been told that just using the shortcut to follow the creature should display that. And it often reminds me that "slapping...
Playing around at the soccer field, my creature started to get pretty tired... So he lays down to take a nap. On top of the whole field. Smashing one of the goal posts and crushing some of the players.
Well, I started with rocks because he actually used to be able to catch them... And either from time or swapping creatures, he's forgotten about it. He didn't, however, seem able to catch the ball. Probably because he seemed to learn to catch from villagers playing soccer on Kilroy's training...
So... You can apparently catch fireballs, but I don't ever seem to be able to. I've checked by slowing time and trying to grab one... And the tooltip displayed the action as "tap" rather than catch, and clicking it yielded no results at all.
I'm also pretty bad at throwing in general, and if...
The cause of the creature tips only showing up when I hover my hand isn't what land I'm on, since it does the same thing on skirmish maps, land 2, etc.. It also feels the need to remind me to "hold your hand over the creature to find out what he's thinking" and "clicking the action button on an...
The landscape in this just plain doesn't look good. It's the exact same texture all over, the shores are angular, and so are the mountains, making the whole place into some sort of labyrinth...
Enemy creatures start out dangerously close to your temple, your workshop is really tiny and at first I thought you didn't have one, and any reasonably sized creature isn't going to be able to walk to the nearest village that you don't control, which also belongs to the enemy.
You really can't see anything but your temples and creature if it's big enough for all the trees on this map... Could be entertaining if somebody got off a fireball on it though.
There may actually be too many trees in this map... And it is quite odd to see palm trees in a winter landscape... And in the water. Fish appear to be nonexistant and flocks are hard to spot, as well.
